FROM COMPASSION TO IMPACT: HOW TIMOTHY JONATHAN IS REWRITING THE FUTURE FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN JENTA ADAMU COMMUNITY

Written by Pololis Danladi Dung

Impact is not always loud. Sometimes, it begins quietly, in classrooms with empty desks, in the rumble of empty stomachs, and in the silent withdrawal of a child who has accepted that education is not meant for them.

In an exclusive interview with Jenta Focus

In Jenta Adamu community, that quiet impact found its voice through one man, Mr. Timothy Jonathan, whose response to these struggles has transformed countless lives.

Mr. Timothy Jonathan
As a teacher and Sunday school instructor, Timothy did not set out to start an organization. He simply paid attention. Day after day, he encountered children slipping through the cracks, students coming to school hungry, others staying home because fees were unpaid, and some who had never stepped into a classroom at all.

“I discovered there are so many students lacking in many areas,” he explains.

“Some would come to school without eating. Some, when asked what class they were in, would say they were not in school, because their parents could not afford it.”These realities were not statistics to him; they were faces, names, and stories he could not ignore.

In 2011, Timothy began taking action in the simplest way he could: organizing summer and holiday lessons to support children academically in Sunday school. There was no formal structure at the time, just a growing burden to help.

As he engaged more with the children and their families, he started seeking parents’ consent to enroll their children in school or skill acquisition programs. As his passion grew, Timothy took a bold step by establishing Christ Royalty Academy, running primary and secondary school programs in July 2014.

“The aim was to provide affordable education to residents in the community and beyond,” he said. “But considering the condition of some families, I had to start giving some children scholarships.”For secondary school students unable to afford critical exams like WAEC, NECO, and JAMB, Timothy stepped in to pay their fees.

Over the years, he has also organized free preparatory lessons for these exams, bringing in volunteers with teaching experience to mentor the students. But Timothy’s intervention went beyond academics. Recognizing the need for a holistic approach, he invested in students’ spiritual growth through discipleship and Bible studies. He also equipped them with practical skills such as tailoring, shoemaking, bag-making, and ICT.

His goal was not just to keep children in school, but to prepare them for life.Over time, these efforts gave birth to the Christ Royalty Children and Empowerment Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2024.

The foundation is committed to providing free educational sponsorship and life-building opportunities for vulnerable children. What started in Jenta Adamu has now extended to other communities, expanding its reach and deepening its impact.

On the issue of funding, Timothy revealed that the initiative is largely sustained through personal sacrifice and limited external support.“Most of the work is funded from my personal resources, with little support from a few friends,” he explained. “But the need is growing, and I cannot do it alone.”

He therefore calls on well-meaning individuals, organizations, and members of the community and beyond to partner with the foundation in order to reach more children and expand its programs.

Looking ahead, Timothy shared his plans for the future:“Considering the population we currently serve, there is a need to expand our facilities and establish a standard skill acquisition center,” he said.

“Some of the students we have trained are now in the university, which is a great encouragement and proof that the work is making a real difference.”Timothy’s humanitarian work has not gone unnoticed.

In 2025, during the Jenta Dawaki Youth Development Association end of the year event, he was honored with a Humanitarian Service Award, recognizing his dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children in the community.

Today, the organization stands as a beacon of hope for children who might otherwise be forgotten. Yet, the need remains urgent. For every child reached, many more are still waiting, hoping for someone to see them, believe in them, and give them a chance.

The story of Timothy Jonathan is a powerful reminder that impact begins with awareness, grows through compassion, and multiplies through action. It is also a call to individuals, organizations, and partners, to support a mission that is already transforming lives, and has the potential to do even more with the right backing.
